ABOUT US
Elton Fishing Pty Ltd is owned and operated by Michael & Holly, husband and wife. Established in 2014, there has always been a clear vision to supply the freshest premium South Australian seafood direct to customers.
Michael has passionately worked as a Commercial Fisherman for over 14 years, all of which have been based on the Eyre Peninsula. This local knowledge is priceless when it comes to fishing for the best seafood in South Australia. The Spencer Gulf and West Coast of South Australia are world renowned for it’s pristine waters and unique marine species.
Elton Fishing guarantee you fish that is fresh, consistent quality, supplied seasonally and delivered fast. The fish is landed daily to ensure the freshest possible seafood supply. Two boats are operated, alternating daily, depending on conditions and targeted species. The catch of the day is the only seafood supplied to customers, guaranteeing freshness.
“Call me and see what I’m fishing for”- Michael Elton
SA Marine Scale Management
The management arrangements for the MSF are complex due to the multi-species and multi-gear nature of the fishery and are implemented through a variety of regulations, licence conditions and other legal instruments.
The fishery is largely managed through the use of input controls which aim to limit the total amount of effort that can be directed into the fishery to ensure the sustainability of the aquatic resources on which the fishery is based.*- 2019 MARINE SCALEFISH FISHERY OPERATOR USER GUIDE
Elton Fishing’s SA Marine Scale Licence, M380 operates under strict guidelines enforced by PIRSA.

HARVEST METHODS
• Southern Calamari
Jig Caught
Placed into wash bins where fresh sea water is circulated to purge out ink.
Once squid are clean, they are packed into an esky with fresh sea water and ice bottles.
• King George Whiting
Line Caught
Fish are caught into an ice slurry, killing the fish quickly and reducing their core temperature fast. After being “slurried” fish are packed into boxes with ice and stored in a large esky until landing.
• Snapper/Bight Red Fish/Any Other Medium-Large Fish
Handline, Longline, Drop Line Caught
Fish are spiked (Ikijime) and bled before going into an ice slurry. After being “slurried” fish are packed into boxes with ice and stored in a large esky until landing.
• Sand Crabs
Hoop Net Caught
Crabs are caught using 10 hoop nets. A hoop net consists of one steel ring no larger than 107cm with a net attached.
Crabs are caught day and night, measured and placed into ice slurry. Ice slurry method ensures premium quality as the crab is subdued quickly. After being “slurried” fish are packed into boxes with ice and stored in a large esky until landing.
• Shark
Handline, Longline, Drop Line Caught
All species of shark are generally caught using a long line. Long line is a method in which baited hooks are set along a “main line” either set to float or sink. School and Gummy Shark frequent the same habitat as Snapper and Bight Red Fish, therefore often come as an added bonus to the catch.
Sharks are killed and bled at the moment of capture. Once bled out the head and guts are removed. Trunks are then stored on ice.
